Stories in English. Intermediate Level: Marco and the pirates of Campeche

Marco was once a captain of a pirate boat in the Caribbean during the 1990s. He was a very respected captain of a small vessel that commandeered diapers, baby oil, and other daily supplies.

Marco had a very special friend on the boat named Sal, who one day fell off the boat in a tragic accident. Marco was heartbroken. He was Marcos’ special friend.

The crew went into shore on the Florida coast to find a new crewmate. Even though it was the 1990s they were required to wear 1770s pirate costumes.

While they were docked in Tampa, Marco found a perfect replacement for Sal. His name was Geoff Werner.

Geoff was a very handsome man and an expert harpooner. He harpooned sharks. Marco thought Geoffs’ harpooning skills would come in handy on the vast open seas. Geoff carried a special pouch with him around his neck. Marco was very curious about what was in this pouch, but decided it was best not to ask.

Once out at sea, the crew continued their pirating ways. They sailed into all the major ports of Colombia. Colombia, at this time, was the number one exporter of diapers. Marco knew this is where he could make his money. One day, they saw a very dark black ship on the horizon. This was different from any ship they had ever seen; It was very menacing.
